Gear Put World Championships 2025

As at least all sports enthusiasts know, the shot put is a track-and-field event involving ‘putting’ – or throwing – a heavy spherical ball – the shot – as far as possible. Originally, of course, it was a matter of putting a stone and later a cannon ball to a distance. At ATA Gears, there’s a special application of this ancient discipline: gear put.

The first World Championships in Gear Put were organized at ATA Gears in 2009. The weight of the ‘projectile’ – the gear wheel – is measured as 6.8 kg for men and 4.0 kg for women. Years and years of hitting the ground may, of course, have taken a few grams off the equipment.

Just how much sport-specific training the athletes are doing throughout the year remains a closely-guarded secret but judging by the results, many women and men are in top form, so they must have been doing the essential skill and strength exercises for the sport.

Here are the official results of the Gear Put World Championships 2025:

Women: Susanna Kivikoski 5.85 metres
Men: Tero Paananen 7.85 metres

ATA Gears congratulates the winners. And the training goes on.
